The country seems to be gearing up for London 2012 and all that goes with hosting the Olympic Games.
However, some organisations are already speaking to e-mango on how we can help them work effectively and communicate clearly during the time period around the Games. They have near-enough written off going into central London. London is home to a great number of trace associations and membership organisations, will you be affected?
Having a web based CRM, CMS or Membership System hosted on the Internet will definitely benefit those that need to work from home. Having VPN access to the office network may do the same thing, but that has a burden on managing security and cumbersome unless there is a fast Internet connection in both directions. ADSL lines are generally only fast for downloading from the Internet onto the network and not the other way round.
Commercial and Not for Profit organisations could use short messaging systems like Twitter as a quick and effective communication tool to share. Public sector clients could use more secure and closed systems to do the same thing. One client is even using their Content Management System to provide permission controlled access to work documents for their staff instead of trying to access the office network. There is some innovative thinking going on.
We wish London 2012 all the success it deserves but, for businesses in London there is wider range of considerations before we can say business as usual.
